Almas is a partner Dentons UKMEA LLP’s Almaty office. He has over 15 years' experience advising clients in the oil and gas industry in Kazakhstan. He regularly advises clients on upstream exploration and production transactions, including drafting and negotiating host government contracts and joint operating agreements. He also has broad experience in mergers and acquisitions.
Almas holds an LLM in Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Law from the University of Houston Law Centre. He also holds a degree with honours in International Law from Kazakh State National University and a BS in Business Law from Indiana University.
Almas has written numerous articles on oil, gas and mining topics. Almas speaks Kazakh, Russian and English.
Chambers Global 2013 Client's Guide to the Leading Lawyers in Business notes that he "really knows his stuff" and "can express legal views cogently."
Almas has written articles on oil, gas and mining for Mineral Resources of Kazakhstan and the Almaty Herald. He co-authored an article with Marla Valdez in the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law, entitled: Recent Developments in International Energy Law, Kazakhstan: Petroleum Changes.
