Dentons is pleased to advise that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has recommended the appointment of our colleague Peter Harder to Senate and as the Government Representative in the Senate, replacing the former role of Leader of the Government in the Senate. In this new position, Peter will facilitate the introduction and consideration of Government legislation, and will be sworn in as a Privy Councillor.

This is a well-deserved appointment and tremendous accomplishment for Peter, reflecting the high regard in which he is held across the country for his experience, skills and diplomacy. This prestigious new role follows his recent leadership of the government’s transition team; his involvement at the center of government decision-making for more than thirty years; his work as President of the Canada China Business Council; and almost a decade at Dentons in which his insights and experience have greatly enhanced our capabilities to act as trusted advisors to our clients at the increasingly important intersection of law, business and public policy.
