Inclusive Leadership actions

Inclusive Leadership is key to our I&D strategy. We have developed 12 Inclusive Leadership actions to ensure all our leaders are active in championing inclusion and diversity. These have been rolled out to the Board and are now being embedded into the objectives and performance reviews for all Partners and Business Services Leaders in 2021/2022.

Accelerating Race Strategy

As part of our Accelerating Race Strategy, we have put in place an action plan focusing on the following three strands. A copy of the action plan can be found here – link.

• Raising awareness: listen to understand, understand to act
• Opening the dialogue for two-way engagement: cascading that conversation throughout Dentons, team by team.
• Advancing our BAME talent: this includes being a signatory to the Race Fair Recruitment Commitment (link) and reviewing our lateral hire and stay interview practices.

Social Mobility

We are committed to identifying ways in which we can broaden access to students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in the legal profession.

Dentons' six-year Solicitor Apprenticeship Programme for school leavers offers an alternative route to becoming a qualified solicitor. The structured training programme combines practical work and study that leads to an LLB (Hons) Legal Practice degree awarded by BPP University Law School and direct qualification as a solicitor. Our first three Solicitor Apprentices joined Dentons in 2017 and we now have apprentices in our London and Milton Keynes offices.

We are a member of Prime, a collaboration of law firms committed to providing access to work experience in law firms for school-aged students from backgrounds that are under-represented in the legal profession;

Through our involvement with the Social Mobility Business Partnership, we provide school-aged students with access to the legal profession and support to develop their career aspirations. Dentons collaborates with Network Rail and the Government Legal Department to provide skills sessions to students in London and Glasgow.

We are a founding member of Aspiring Solicitors, an organisation set up to increase diversity in the legal profession by providing increased access, enhanced opportunity and assistance to aspiring solicitors from underrepresented groups to support their entry into the profession.

Dentons launches an Accelerating Race Strategy Action Plan across the UK

Dentons has launched an Accelerating Race Strategy Action Plan across the UK in response to the Black Lives Matter protests and Dentons' inclusion and diversity strategy. The launch coincides with the firm's focus on Black History Month in October. The plan takes steps to achieve Dentons' commitment to a 20% diversity target in aggregate across ethnicity, LGBT and disability in the UK, Ireland and Middle East partnership by 2025. 

Dentons launches solicitor apprenticeship programme in the UK

Dentons has launched a solicitor apprenticeship programme in the UK, offering in its first year up to four school leavers an alternative route to becoming qualified solicitors.

Dentons hosts LGBT Allies event with international rugby player as keynote speaker

June 23, 2016

Dentons is pleased to have hosted an event organised by the Firm's UK Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) and Allies network, known as GLOW, with former international rugby player Gareth Thomas as its keynote speaker. The event - 'Rugby, revelations and real life: an evening with Gareth Thomas' was held to coincide with Pride in London 2016 and took place on 21 June 2016 in London. It was attended by some 200 staff and clients.
