Following the enactment of a "net zero" target for UK greenhouse gas emissions in 2050, the outgoing Conservative government published a large number of energy policy documents, covering everything from funding new nuclear power stations to energy efficiency. With a general election quite possibly looming, the Labour Party conference has voted in favour of hitting net zero by 2030, on top of the party's already ambitious and radical plans to force the pace of decarbonisation. Meanwhile, Ofgem is gearing up to take a series of decisions that will shape the funding of energy network companies and how users pay for their services for years to come. Finally, a radical overhaul of the downstream gas and electricity industries' notoriously intricate system of regulation by "industry codes" is promised (for the mid-2020s).
