Part 1 – Learning session 9 – 11:30 a.m. ET Thirty-minute learning modules focused on four key areas.	Lightning round: A rapid-fire update on critical developments in privacy, including crackdowns on deceptive design, new breach notification requirements, best practices in diversity data collection, and tips on implementing Québec’s new data portability right and anonymization regulations. Primary and secondary uses – what’s the difference? Why does it matter? Primary and secondary uses of personal information trigger different consent obligations, and different exceptions from consent. Learn about whether marketing can ever be a primary use, and if express consent is required for secondary uses, and more. Biometric information: Not all biometric information is created equal. Understand what counts as “biometric information”, the difference between biometric information, biometric identifiers, and what types and uses trigger the Québec requirement to notify the regulator. Hear about common use cases and pitfalls. Bill C-27 Committee amendments to date: Bill C-27, the Bill that if passed would rewrite PIPEDA and introduce a law governing artificial intelligence, continues to meander through Parliament. Learn about the amendments that the Committee has made to date and understand where the Bill is heading.

Join us to learn the value of PIAs for AI and how to ask the right questions, frame risk, and address the unique challenges AI brings to PIAs. Participants will work through a PIA case study. Workshop session #2: Handling Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) With data subject rights expanding in Canada, engage with our case studies to learn how to manage deletion and data portability requests, verify identities, handle large volumes of data, and navigate the growing risks of complaints and litigation.
