World’s largest law firm combines with Honduras' Gustavo Zacapa y Asociados as part of expansion strategy in Latin America and the Caribbean
Washington, D.C.—Dentons has launched a previously announced combination with a leading law firm in Honduras to further its growth strategy in Latin America and the Caribbean ("LAC").
Dentons has combined with Gustavo Zacapa y Asociados in Honduras, a firm with more than 60 years' history and an excellent reputation in both local and international markets. Its multidisciplinary practice includes corporate, litigation and advisory work. It specializes in Corporate Law, Intellectual Property, Sanitary Registrations and Regulatory Affairs, Tax Law, Employment Law, Administrative Law, and Notarial Services. The firm in Honduras will now be known as Dentons Muñoz Zacapa.
“Dentons is now the first truly Pan-Latin American and Caribbean firm in the history of the legal profession,” said Joe Andrew, Global Chair of Dentons. "Since entering the LAC region in 2016 and following our recent announcement of Dentons' intention to combine with Rattagan Macchiavello Arocena in Argentina and with Jiménez de Aréchaga, Viana & Brause in Uruguay, Dentons will now have offices in 23 countries across the LAC region."
"Our new office in Honduras means that we can now connect clients to the experience and talents of more lawyers across more locations than any other firm in the LAC region, as well as our 10,000+ lawyers around the globe," said Elliott Portnoy, Global CEO of Dentons.
Since entering the LAC region in 2016, Dentons has grown faster -and with truly high-quality firms-than any other law firm in the region has ever done. The combination in Honduras follows upon our expansion in Chile, Venezuela, Guyana, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago. These moves came in the wake of rapid expansion in LAC, with combinations with Delany Law and Dinner Martin in the Caribbean and a strategic alliance launched with Brazil's Vella Pugliese Buosi Guidoni, as well as a combination with Gallo Barrios Pickmann in Peru.
These also follow the earlier launch of Dentons Muñoz in Central America, with offices in Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Nicaragua, and San José and Liberia in Costa Rica, and of Dentons López Velarde in Mexico and Dentons Cardenas & Cardenas in Colombia. This rapid growth has seen Dentons become the first truly Pan-LAC firm in the history of the legal profession.
Earlier this month, Dentons announced its intention to combine with two LAC firms, Rattagan Macchiavello Arocena in Argentina and Jiménez de Aréchaga, Viana & Brause in Uruguay, and with five firms in Africa, LEAD Advogados in Angola, Sayarh & Menjra in Morocco, Fernanda Lopes & Associados Advogados in Mozambique, Kyagaba and Otatiina Advocates in Uganda, and Eric Silwamba, Jalasi and Linyama Legal Practitioners in Zambia. Recently, Dentons also announced its intention to combine with three leading law firms in seven days: Kensington Swan in New Zealand, Gustavo Zacapa y Asociados in Honduras, and Lee International in South Korea. Dentons' partners have approved all three combinations. Also in 2019, Dentons' partners approved a combination with MawereSibanda in Zimbabwe, and launched Dentons Venezuela in Venezuela and Dentons Larraín Rencoret in Chile.
