Alizé D. Mitchell is an associate in the Litigation practice, based in Atlanta.

1. Please share some of your recent projects and/or accomplishments.

Recently I have successfully assisted in negotiating a settlement agreement on behalf of Kabbage; successfully drafted and argued our opposition to a motion to dismiss, and cross-examined relevant witnesses, in a pro bono matter; and drafted an appellate brief in an employment law matter addressing allegations of age and gender discrimination.

2. How does being diverse contribute to your success as a legal professional?

It allows me to bring a different perspective to the case team. My unique experiences and opinions help me to identify, address and resolve legal issues while being able to relate to clients on an interpersonal level.

3. What advice would you give to young Black lawyers/professionals starting their careers in the legal field?

To take ownership of advancing their career goals by seeking out professional development opportunities; to explore opportunities to perform work outside of their office; and to find a mentor who can offer career advice on topics such as managing client relationships, and whom you can also help develop in return. Mentoring is a two-way street where both professionals should be able to gain valuable insight from one another.

4. What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month is a chance for us to recognize as a society the historic and ongoing oppression African Americans have faced, to celebrate the progress we have made in righting historic wrongs, to recognize the contributions African Americans have made in advancing society and to acknowledge the steps we still have to make in working toward building an equitable America.

5. Those who don’t know you very well would be surprised to learn that…

I am an avid snorkeler and am currently working toward becoming a certified scuba diver. My son recently joined me on his first snorkeling adventure at two years old in Hawai`i.
