Brussels—July 8 marked the launch of Pro Publico, a Brussels-based nonprofit association (ASBL) dedicated to bridging the gap between civil society and legal and public affairs professionals in Belgium and across Europe.  Dentons provided pro bono legal advice to Pro Publico’s founders to support the setup of the nonprofit association.

Civil society organizations often generate innovative solutions to address critical issues such as climate change, human trafficking, strategic law suits, human rights violations, and the erosion of the rule of law. However, their potential is frequently hindered by limited resources and expertise in legal and public affairs.  Pro Publico aims to change this by connecting these organizations with top-tier law firms and public affairs consultancies, offering their services pro bono publico – free of charge, recognizing the societal value of the aims pursued.

Dentons partner Laurens Engelen and associate Aurore Ancion provided pro bono legal advice to assist with the creation of Pro Publico’s nonprofit association legal entity as well as other legal issues. Atanas Politov and Joanna Khatib from the Europe Positive Impact team also provided coordination and support on the project.
