A recent legislative bill seeking to amend the Act on Electrical Energy (the “Proposed Amendment”) was submitted to the Hungarian Parliament on November 10, 2020. If adopted, the Proposed Amendment will result in certain specific changes in the renewable energy market in Hungary, which would take effect as of January 2021.

The Proposed Amendment was adopted by the Hungarian Parliament on December 16, 2020 and was promulgated in the Hungarian Official Gazette on December 22, 2020.

According to the adopted version, the producer’s duty to provide a financial guarantee, as well as the network operators’ obligation to publish, on a six-monthly basis, detailed information on their available connection capacities, will take effect as of April 1, 2021 instead of January 1, 2021. Hence, the network operators’ first publications may be expected from that date. The other provisions remained unchanged and entered into force on January 1, 2021.
