In December 2017, FIDIC published new editions of the Red Book (Construction), the Yellow Book (Design and Build) and the Silver Book (Turn-key), the first re-write since 1999. So what has changed?

FIDIC say the core purpose of the update is to achieve greater clarity, transparency and certainty. They say this will lead to fewer disputes and more successful projects. But are the changes actually an improvement? Or are FIDIC guilty of over-engineering and adding unnecessary procedural complexity? Have they created a project administration minefield?

We will be exploring these questions in our analysis of the extensive changes to the 1999 Red, Yellow and Silver books. We will consider the practicalities faced in implementing the new contracts, and encourage discussion of the issues which are crucial for the Sultanate of Oman.
