Kyiv—On 16 April 2015, Dentons’ Kyiv office hosted a round table on “The Ukrainian market for honey production and sale,” organised by A7 CONFERENCES in partnership with Agro.Reforms.UA.

Round table participants highlighted the fact that Ukraine is ranked first in honey exports within Europe—and fourth in the world—and that the most crucial issue among key market players is to diversify the markets for export.

Vladyslava Rutytska, Deputy Minister on European Integration of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, and the moderator of the event, mentioned the following: “Ukrainian honey production has one of the best export opportunities. The volume of honey export in 2014 was US$66.4 million. Despite the fact that the honey harvesting season has not yet started, the export volume in Q1 2015 has been 4.5 thousand tons amounting to US$10.5 million.”

During the meeting, participants discussed issues related to the export of the beekeeping products, the development strategy of industry, as well as the simplification and harmonization of customs procedures with regard to the honey specimens. “The legislation on beekeeping requires improvement. In particular, there should be an opportunity to export honey specimens from Ukraine to other countries as well as to align within the agricultural industries plants fertilization and their further chemical treatment. In addition, (we need) to elaborate together with environmental companies and other authorities how to support and further develop the honey industry,” commented Volodymyr Monastyrskyy, Dentons Kyiv Partner.

The event was attended by Tetyana Vasylkivska, Chairman, NGO “Beekeeping Brotherhood of Ukraine;” Dmytro Yanovych, Deputy Director, State Research Control Institute Of Veterinary Preparation And Fodder Additives; Leonid Vered, Chairman, Association of Beekeepers of Ukraine; Oleksandr Galatyuk, Director of the Institute of Beekeeping; and representatives of the following companies: “Honey Fields,” “Zhen,” “Med Podillya,” “Bartnik,” and many others.

In May 2015, Dentons will host similar round tables, which will focus on dairy, alcohol products, grains and legumes markets, as well as on Ukraine’s seafood market.
