Ottawa—For the sixth consecutive year, Dentons has been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers, highlighting the Firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Canada's Best Diversity Employers recognizes employers across Canada that have exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs. The selection committee, made up of Mediacorp editors, reviewed thousands of applications to create a short-list of employers with noteworthy and unique diversity initiatives. Each short-listed candidate's programs were reviewed to determine how they compared to those of other employers in the same field, addressing five major employee groups: women, members of visible minorities, persons with disabilities, aboriginal peoples, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered/transsexual individuals.

Dentons has engaged in a number of initiatives to build a diverse and inclusive work environment, including:

• Published a statement of commitment to diversity and inclusion, which serves as the framework on which we have built a robust and comprehensive diversity plan anchored in a culture of inclusion.
• Formed  ‘Dialogue LGBTA Resource Group’, which promotes the professional growth of employees, and fosters external business development and networking opportunities for our LGBT firm members.
• Partnered with Royal Bank of Canada to provide work experience at Dentons for RBC’s  Aboriginal articling student, a law student from an Aboriginal community, who is provided an articling position with RBC.
• Formed ‘Women’s Vault’ to develop, support and help women to succeed through casual and formal interaction in social settings directed exclusively to women.
• Created accessibility-friendly office spaces for Firm members, clients and guests.
• Sponsored a scholarship for a black law student through the Black Business Professional Association.
• Reserved an articling position in our Toronto office for an internationally-trained lawyer and partnered with Imperial Oil in Calgary to provide an articling opportunity to a qualified internationally-trained lawyer as part of our commitment to assisting qualified lawyers from abroad to become licensed to practice law in Canada.
