Doha—Following recent changes in Employment Law in Qatar, in particular developments in the regulation of salary payments and sponsorship law, senior legal and HR executives attended roundtables in Dentons Doha office to consider the impact of these changes.

The roundtables built on recent successful employment events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai hosted by Dentons in collaboration with the Association of Corporate Counsel Middle East. Led by Dentons Managing Partner for Qatar and Jordan, Safwan Moubaydeen, and associate Nadine Naji, the roundtables focused on the recent changes regulating employment regulations in Qatar including the Wage Protection System and the Sponsorship Law. Additionally the discussion centred on recurring queries surrounding the types of employment contracts, employee benefits, end of service gratuity and restrictive covenants.

Commenting on the events Moubaydeen said "The Employment Law sets minimum standards for employing staff in Qatar – any contrary conditions are invalid unless more advantageous to the employee. Employment issues continue to generate much debate and we were delighted to host these two roundtables to facilitate discussion."
