Muscat—To celebrate its 35th anniversary in the Sultanate of Oman, Dentons hosted a client reception on 9 November 2016. The private event was held at The Chedi Hotel, Beach Restaurant in Muscat and was attended by clients, partners and fee earners from across Dentons' global network. Guests were welcomed by the Muscat office's Co-Managing Partner Nick Simpson, together with UKMEA CEO Jeremy Cohen.
Speaking at the event on behalf of the UKMEA Board, Jeremy Cohen commented, "Whilst we continue to grow and innovate to help connect businesses with the highest quality legal and business advice both here in Oman and around the world, we have not lost sight of a key cornerstone of Dentons' philosophy: our commitment to our clients, our people and the communities in which we live and serve – a philosophy so well embodied by our Muscat office over the past 35 years."
Nick Simpson also paid a further special tribute, and commented, "We especially want to thank our clients, to whom we owe our success, for their support during the past 35 years. Looking to the future and to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos's vision of economic diversification, Dentons will continue to strive to support its clients as they look to tap into the opportunities that lie ahead."
The evening featured a video presentation by lawyers addressing the audience in both Arabic and English, articulating their thoughts on Oman, the Muscat office and its achievements over the past 35 years. The presentation touched on the key role Dentons has played in drafting the new foreign investment law in Oman, its rich and diverse office environment, the investment made in producing and supporting some of the most talented Omani lawyers in the country as well as supporting the wider community through its CSR initiatives, including as founders of Oman Outward Bound.
Throughout its 35-year presence in Oman, Dentons has helped to develop and shape Oman's legal landscape. It has been involved in drafting key legislation such as the Sector Law, which regulates the power and water privatisation process and operations, as well as in designing the market structure establishing the key players in the Oman power and water sector. More recently, the Firm has assisted the World Trade Organisation and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to draft the Foreign Direct Investment Law, which is expected to be promulgated in the near future.
Dentons has been involved in many landmark and debut transactions in the Sultanate over the years which have created precedents in the market, such as the first dual currency sukuk to be issued in Oman which was also the first issuance under Oman's new Sukuk Regulations.
