Dentons partner Louis Skyner has been elected Chairman of the British Uzbek Society. Established in 2002, the British Uzbek Society provides a forum for social, cultural, academic, and business exchange between the United Kingdom and Uzbekistan. The society’s membership now includes more than 100 individuals and companies.

“This is a very exciting time to be doing business in Uzbekistan. Recent reforms have opened up the market and helped create a much more favorable business environment. Opportunities abound for foreign investors, particularly in the energy, mining, banking and retail sectors,” said Louis Skyner. “In my new role as Chairman, I will focus on building closer ties between our two nations and in particular, on helping British investors find business opportunities in Uzbekistan.”

Louis Skyner is a partner in Dentons’ global Energy practice, who focuses on Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). He advises energy companies on a broad range of legal issues, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, project development, structuring and financing. Over the past year he has advised clients on a number of projects in Uzbekistan, in collaboration with Dentons’ office in Tashkent. He advised the State Investment Committee of Uzbekistan on the development of a public investment management policy; Enter Engineering on issues arising out of an EPC contract for the construction of a gas processing plant; United Green on the structuring and financing of a PV solar facility; BB Energy on the recognition and enforcement of an international arbitration award; and Sturgeon Capital on the structuring of a fund making investments in Uzbekistan.
