Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, today announces that Firm partners Kathryn Ashton, Eric Berlin, John Koski, Keith Moskowitz, and Mary Wilson were named to Crain’s Chicago Business’ inaugural Notable Gen X Leaders in Law list.
The list recognizes Chicago’s most distinguished attorneys who go above and beyond to take on leadership roles both within and outside their firms, provide guidance as mentors to other attorneys and play active roles in shaping precedents and trends in the legal industry.
Ashton is a leader of the Global Health Care group and is co-chair of the Cannabis Group. Concentrating her practice in health care transactional matters with an emphasis on finance, she serves as underwriter’s counsel, borrower’s counsel and counsel to credit and liquidity providers in the health care industry. As co-chair of the Cannabis Group, Ashton focuses on advising investors and participants in the US and international cannabis industries. She is part of the American Health Lawyers Association, Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys, National Association of Bond Lawyers and the Illinois Cannabis Bar Association. B
Berlin is one of the nation’s leading cannabis law authorities and helps to lead the Global Cannabis group. He is one of the first Big Firm lawyer to advocate full-time for clients in, or impacted by, the state-legal cannabis industries and tensions with federal law, and represents large publicly traded companies, companies involved in financing the industry, vaporizer manufacturers, health care institutions, testing labs, cultivators, processors, and a company operating dispensaries in several states. He is a former director of the Better Government Association and currently serves as president of board of directors for the University of Chicago GI Research Foundation and as president of the Illinois Cannabis Bar Association.
Koski is global chief legal officer for Dentons, chairs the Global Risk Management Committee, serves on the Global Management Committee, and reports to the Global Board. For more than 20 years, he has counseled the Firm on governance, structure, litigation, transactions, insurance, regulation, compliance, investigations, and professional responsibility matters. For 10 of those years, he served as the US General Counsel for the Firm. He is a member of the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers and the American Bar Association’s Center for Professional Responsibility, is a past president of the Board of Directors of Youth & Opportunity United, Inc., and speaks and writes frequently on legal ethics.
Moskowitz is a member of Dentons’ global and US boards, and co-leader of the global Insurance and US Insurance Litigation and Arbitration sectors. A trial lawyer with more than 20 years of experience defending insurance companies in complex commercial cases involving all lines of insurance in US federal and state trial and appellate courts, he has particular experience litigating insurance coverage and bad faith disputes and insurance-related class actions.
Wilson, recently named as the first woman US managing partner for Dentons, assumes a major leadership role for one of the key regions of the world’s largest law firm. Since joining the Firm 14 years ago, she held many leadership roles, including managing partner of the Chicago office for more than five years, co-chair of the Associates Development Committee, and an active member of the Firm’s US Board. She focuses her practice on national finance, health care law and tax-exempt organizations, and to date, she has worked on billions of dollars in financings across the US. Wilson is on the board of directors of KEEN Chicago and the Chicago Leadership Board of the American Diabetes Association.
