Bratislava—Daniel Lipšic, a successful lawyer and partner at the Bratislava office of Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, was elected Special Prosecutor of the Slovak Republic by the Slovak parliament on February 5, 2021.

Peter Kubina, Slovakia Managing Partner at Dentons and Co-head of the Bratislava Dispute Resolution practice, will take over Daniel Lipšic’s litigations including well-known cases such as the representation of the family of Ján Kuciak, a journalist who was murdered along with his fiancé.

Daniel Lipšic’s most notable litigation successes include the recent successful representation of TV Markíza, the largest private television company in Slovakia, in criminal proceedings concerning the forgery of promissory notes and obstruction of justice in the amount exceeding €68 million. He devoted a large part of his work to pro bono litigation, such as the criminal defense of a juvenile defendant, David Bako, charged with the felony of murder, who was subsequently granted a conditional pardon by the President of the Slovak Republic. Together with Peter Kubina, he also successfully defended the freedom of speech before the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic.

“I has been my honor to work more than four years in a top law firm and establish its Criminal Law team. One of the factors in my decision to run for the position of special prosecutor was the belief that if my candidacy were successful, our Criminal Law team would continue to operate successfully under Peter Kubina's leadership,” says Daniel Lipšic, Special Prosecutor-elect.
