Dentons Bingham Greenebaum senior partner John W. Ames has been recognized by the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) with its 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award. John works exclusively in the business reorganization process, both in Chapter 11 and state law workouts. He received the honor during ABI’s Winter Leadership Conference on December 10, 2021.

John represents debtors, as well as creditors, both secured and unsecured. He has served as a Chapter 7 Trustee for 24 years, a Chapter 12 Trustee for 12 years and has been appointed as creditors' committee counsel. He served as president of ABI in 2007-2008 and as past president in 2009-2010. He has been a member of ABI since 1985, serving on various committees. He is currently co-chair of the Veterans and Servicemembers Task Force of ABI. John is a former captain in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1967-1972.

John has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for more than 30 years in the fields of Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law and/or Litigation – Bankruptcy. He is also consistently recognized by Kentucky Super Lawyers as one of the “Top 50 Attorneys in Kentucky.” John received the ABI’s Leadership Award in 2015.

John is a former member of the Louisville Crane House and a past president of the University of Louisville Alumni Association. John is a past director and current volunteer with the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots Campaign. He is also a past director of the Kentucky Marine Corps Coordinating Committee.
