Dentons’ partner Tania Moyron has been selected as a Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) Rising Star for 2021. MCCA’s Rising Stars is an annual award honoring lawyers whose accomplishments and dedication to the legal profession and to their community place them among “ones to watch.” Moyron was one of 20 diverse lawyers selected for leading the charge for systemic change in their communities and workplaces. At Dentons, she leads the Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy (RIB) Practice Group’s Diversity Partners Initiative, a role for which she was chosen based on her commitment to fostering and promoting diversity and inclusion. She is noted for her work mentoring young woman attorneys and her efforts to increase diversity in the RIB Group. 

Resident in the Los Angeles office, Moyron serves as US region co-chair of Dentons’ RIB group. She has significant experience in bankruptcy, corporate restructuring and related litigation matters, having represented Chapter 11 debtors, creditors’ and equity committees, liquidating trustees, principals, and secured and unsecured creditors in all aspects of corporate bankruptcies, restructurings, liquidations and workout situations. Moyron’s representations span a variety of industries, including health care, retail, franchise restaurant, entertainment, trucking, and commercial and residential real estate, and she has advised both buyers and sellers of assets in bankruptcy and receivership, including a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) and a restaurant franchise. She also has litigation experience in state and federal courts and appellate experience before the US Bankruptcy Appellate Panel of the Ninth Circuit, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and various US district courts.

Most recently, Moyron co-led the representation of Verity Health System of California in its Chapter 11 filing—the second-largest non-profit hospital bankruptcy case in American history with more than US$1.4 billion of debt. Moyron and her multi-office, multi-jurisdictional team obtained bankruptcy court approval of the sale of Verity’s six acute care hospitals, and confirmed the joint plan of liquidation, all over the vigorous objection of the California Attorney General. Her work in Verity resulted in Mid-Market Restructuring Firm of the Year and winning the Special Situations M&A Deal category at the 2021 Turnaround Atlas Awards.

This year, Moyron was recognized by Chambers USA as an “Up & Coming” lawyer in California and last year she was one of five finalists for The Los Angeles Business Journal’s “Leaders in Law” award. An active member of her community, Moyron has served as team lead for Cycle for Survival, a nonprofit that raises funds to accelerate progress in rare cancer research, and is a board member for LA Beats Cancer. She is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, American Bar Association, Equality California, International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation, Turnaround Management Association, Latina Lawyers Bar Association and Los Angeles County Bar Association.
