The Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration selected Dentons counsel Diora Ziyaeva to join its panel of arbitrators. Ziyaeva is a member of Dentons’ International Dispute Resolution practice and is a resident in the New York office.

The Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (also known as the “South China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission”, the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area International Arbitration Center”, and the “Shenzhen Arbitration Commission”, hereinafter the “SCIA”) is the first arbitration institution in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as the first arbitration institution in China that implements the statutory body governance mechanism: under special legislation, the SCIA has established a corporate governance structure with its international Council as the core.

Ziyaeva has over a decade of experience representing corporate clients, states and state-owned entities in investor-state and commercial arbitration proceedings, successfully handling cases ranging in value from US$10 million to US$20 billion, with experience in energy, oil and gas, mining, telecommunications, construction and aerospace disputes in Latin America, Central Asia, Middle East, Eastern Europe, Oceania and Africa. She has been involved as counsel in over two dozen international arbitration proceedings, both institutional (ICSID, LCIA, ICC, ICDR, SIAC, HKAIC and SCC) and ad hoc, as well as post-arbitral disputes (annulment and enforcement) for both private and public operators.

Licensed in New York and Uzbekistan, Ziyaeva advises parties in international litigations involving proceedings in foreign and domestic courts and has represented parties before the federal and state courts in the United States, including the Supreme Court. Ziyaeva has been recognized in 2018 as one of the American Bar Association's On the Rise – Top 40 Young Lawyers, and in in 2021 and 2022 as a "Future Leader" by Who's Who Legal' s Arbitration.

In addition to her practice, Ziyaeva is a Council on Foreign Relations term member, a mediator certified by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution and a council member for the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution. Additionally, Ziyaeva serves as an adjunct professor of law at Cornell Law School, where she teaches the practice of international arbitration, and at Fordham University School of Law, where she teaches investment treaty arbitration.

Ziyaeva was selected in large part due to her demonstrated extensive experience in the field of arbitration. She will be engaged as an arbitrator of SCIA and included on the SCIA panel of arbitrators for a three year term.
