For Western Europe—with energy resources very diverse from country to country—energy security is crucial. Although energy security strategies are being revised, the region is still to a large extent dependent on imported energy resources.
The European energy sector is fast-changing, capital intensive, strictly regulated and highly competitive. Market players face not only commercial challenges but also environmental and climate change implications. Policymakers and regulators seek energy security and demand both price stability and cleaner energy supplies. Energy efficiency policies are called to ensure the balance.
In this dynamic and complex market, you need a legal partner who understands the full scope of the energy sector. No matter where on the energy value chain you operate, Dentons provides comprehensive strategic assistance to help you achieve your business goals. Oil majors, independents, transportation companies, power generators, utilities, financial institutions and other players rely on our European Energy team.
Our lawyers guide you through the policies and regulations of the European Union and its member states, while also offering authoritative insight into the very different realities of operating within non-EU nations and neighboring regions.
From transactions to dispute resolution, from regulatory compliance to environmental law advice, turn to Dentons' Energy practice in Europe for effective solutions across the energy sector.

The long-awaited latest version of the draft amendment of the Act of 20 February 2015 on Renewable Energy Sources (“RES Act”), the Act of 20 May 2016 on Investments in Wind Power Plants (“Distance Law”) and the Act of 7 July 1994 – the Building Law (“Building Law”) was finally published on 20 February 2018. The great European energy transition continued in 2017 and, across the continent as a whole, shows little sign of slowing up in 2018. Ever lower levels of subsidy and guaranteed power prices awarded after fiercely competitive tenders have not deterred developers or financiers, who still see opportunities even in the more mature renewables markets.
