Heather Khassian is a member of Dentons' Intellectual Property and Technology practice in the Houston office.
Heather is a registered patent attorney who specializes in intellectual property, with a particular focus on biotechnology and chemical arts. Heather counsels and represents clients in intellectual property matters, including intellectual property strategy development, patent drafting and prosecution, licensing and other agreements, opinion work, and freedom to operate assessments. Heather has experience with a broad range of technologies including biotechnology, chemicals, polymers, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, wireless communications and semiconductors. Heather has experience with ANDA litigation, USPTO appeals and interferences, and cases pending before the US International Trade Commission.
Heather's focus has included representing a medical device company for in-licensing of technologies, including performing due diligence assessments and valuations for several large acquisition projects. Heather has also conducted extensive multi-year freedom to operate studies for the same medical device company in crowded and contentious technology areas. Heather also works with smaller clients in developing intellectual property strategy for pharmaceutical products and delivery systems, including patent portfolio development strategy, licensing strategy, enforcement strategy, freedom to operate and due diligence assessments. Among the pharmaceuticals assessed are transdermal pharmaceutical delivery systems, topical delivery systems, and cannabinoid based pharmaceuticals. Heather also counsel clients regarding clinical trials for stem cell treatment of spinal injuries, including providing intellectual property advice regarding the stem cell technology and the proprietary delivery system for the stem cell technology.
Heather has provided pro bono legal services to various health-based start-up companies at the TMCx, the accelerator at the Texas Medical Center. Advice has largely focused on patient data privacy issues and data breach management in the health industry.
