In light of the evolving COVID-19 situation globally, the State Department has officially announced the suspension of normal visa services in most countries. Currently scheduled appointments for nonimmigrant (temporary) and immigrant (permanent) visas impacted by the suspension will be canceled. Any Machine Readable Visa (MRV) fees already paid may be used for a future visa appointment in the country where it has been paid within one year of the payment date.

Certain urgent and emergency visa services may be allowed on a case-by-case basis as resources allow. Note, however: Individual applicants should be advised that we anticipate these services to be granted extremely sparingly. Guidance for requesting an emergency appointment is available on the embassy/consular website.

The State Department has also issued a “Level 4: Do Not Travel Advisory” in which it advises US citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19. Services to US citizens abroad continue to be offered. Please check the embassy/consular website for specific guidance and operating conditions in each country. The suspension of visa services does not impact Visa Waiver/ESTA travelers. Please note country-specific travel restrictions that may apply.
