Modern slavery and supply chain transparency: new statutory obligations to combat slavery and human trafficking

Under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (the Act), businesses now have legal duties to ensure that slavery and human trafficking are not taking place in their supply chain. Section 54 of the Act also imposes obligations on large organisations to report what they are doing to achieve supply chain transparency.

New regulations came into force on 1 October 2015 which require traders selling to consumers to give information about alternative dispute resolution (ADR) to their customers. New obligations relating to online dispute resolution (ODR) will also soon be in force.

BIS issues guidance on zero hours contracts

A zero hours contract entails no obligation on an employer to offer set working hours to a worker. In return, the worker does not have to accept any hours offered by the employer. New government guidance has been issued.
