Nick Kacprowski is a partner in Dentons' Honolulu office. He is a commercial litigator who has represented clients in a wide range of cases, with amounts at stake ranging from US$10,000 to more than US$2 billion. Nick has represented some of the largest corporations and most active private equity firms and venture capital groups in the world. His substantive knowledgte spans a wide range of industries and areas of the law. He has served as first- or second-chair trial counsel in six trials with approximately US$1 billion collectively at risk; obtaining favorable outcomes for his clients in these cases, including a US$700 million fraudulent transfer and breach of fiduciary duty trial, and a $30 million claim over the breakup of a private equity partnership. Nick also has a substantial class action practice, having litigated 20 separate cases involving millions of class members. Although his current focus is primarily on litigation in Hawai`i, Nick has represented clients in more than 10 states and currently is representing a Hawai’i client in a large intellectual property license case venued in San Francisco.
Working on pro bono matters is a major interest of Nick's. He has litigated high-impact cases with broad ramifications beyond the parties involved, as well as matters of life-changing significance to individual clients, such as obtaining asylum in the US for three clients for whom returning to their home country would have put their lives at risk. On behalf of a class of all homeless persons in Honolulu, he successfully sued the City and County of Honolulu to enjoin the City’s unconstitutional practice of indiscriminately destroying their personal property. Nick also has held leadership positions in various bar associations, including the Litigation Section of the ABA, and the Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom, the nation’s largest and oldest regional LGBT bar association.
Nick began his legal career in Honolulu, clerking for the Hon. Helen Gillmor, Chief Judge of the US District Court for the District of Hawai`i. His background also includes nine years in the San Francisco office of an international law firm, where he was elected partner at the age of 30.
