Ross Docksey is a member and past global co-chairman of the Corporate practice group. Ross has been named by HRO Today Magazine and by FAO Today Magazine to their annual lists of Superstars of Outsourcing (2002–2011), and was named by Lawdragon Magazine to its nationwide list of 500 leading lawyers (2006). He is ranked by Chambers Global in "Band 1" Worldwide in Outsourcing. Chambers USA ranked Ross in "Band 1" in Technology and IT Outsourcing and Business Process Outsourcing from 2003 to 2014. Ross represents public and private companies in connection with domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions and dispositions in a wide variety of industries. He represented the acquirer of Fresh Brands, Inc., a public company in the wholesale and retail grocery business, and ABN AMRO Capital and its portfolio company, Loparex, in connection with the acquisition of Douglas-Hanson Co., Inc., a privately held company in the coated paper industry. Representative transactions include representation of a leading multinational manufacturer of analytical instruments in connection with its acquisition by Thermo Electron Corporation; the leading domestic manufacturer of coated release papers in connection with its sale to UPM Kymmene (the second largest company in Finland); Charles Industries in connection with its acquisition of the Wescom Division of Rockwell; the sellers of beverage companies G. Heileman Brewing Company, American Juice and A.J. Canfield; the purchaser of the St. Louis Rams and the seller of the Chicago Bulls; and various banks and bank holding companies, including ABN AMRO, in connection with the purchase and sale of twenty banks and bank holding companies
Ross advises customers in connection with the outsourcing of information technology and business process services. He has, over the last 20 years, represented customers in negotiations with IBM, Advantis, ACS, Electronic Data Systems, Computer Sciences Corporation, GE Capital, Hewlett-Packard, Alltel, Unisys, Acxiom, Oracle, SAP and SCT Utility Systems. While he continued to represent customers between 1993 and 2004, Ross served as outside counsel to Accenture, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Affiliated Computer Services, Aon Consulting, Outsource Partners International, Hyrian and other leading providers in connection with some of their largest and most complex outsourcing contracts. Since 2005, he has focused his practice on the representation of customers. Representative transactions include the outsourcing by BP Amoco to PricewaterhouseCoopers of its upstream oil and gas finance and accounting function; the outsourcing by AT&T to Aon Consulting of 13 HR functions; and the outsourcing by Motorola to ACS, on a global basis, of its HR functions. Ross has also mediated and arbitrated major disputes (up to US$700 million) in the outsourcing industry, and has advised customers in connection with the early termination of failed outsourcing contracts.
Ross advised Sears Roebuck in connection with the formation of Advantis, a joint venture between Sears and IBM that became the foundation for the IBM Global Network; McDonald's Corporation in connection with a strategic alliance with Disney Corporation; a leading IT service provider in connection with a strategic alliance with GE Capital; a US-based chemical company in connection with an alliance with a leading Japanese company to distribute chemicals in Asia and in connection with a joint venture to distribute chemicals in South Africa; and a US-based communications technology company in connection with a joint venture with French and German telecom manufacturing companies to develop and market telecom equipment worldwide.
Ross has represented both customers and service providers in connection with the negotiation of contracts to develop complex customized computer software applications, including software used by stock transfer agents for the maintenance of security-holder records and for processing share transfer instructions; software used to manage the recruitment and licensing of employees by a Fortune 200 company in the securities industry; software used to settle cross-border securities transactions; software used to operate a cross-border electronic futures market; and customization of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software by SAP, Oracle and PeopleSoft.
