On Tuesday, May 18, Dentons celebrated Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month with a special event hosted by our Asian, South Asian, Pacific-American Professionals (ASAPP) affinity group and moderated by senior managing associate Shannon Shin. Featuring Frank Wu, president of Queens College, The City University of New York (CUNY) and New York Congresswoman Grace Meng, the discussion covered the history of the Model Minority Myth, the importance of AAPI representation in government, higher education and other leadership roles, and the passage of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act through Congress. Our panel also considered the importance of coalition-building across diverse groups and recommended allyship actions.
