As the only law firm acknowledged this year, the honour recognizes Dentons’ commitment to, and leadership in, creating a culture of environmental awareness in our organization.

Each employer is evaluated by the editors of Canada's Top 100 Employers in terms of (1) the unique environmental initiatives or programs they have developed; (2) whether they have been successful in reducing their own environmental footprint; (3) whether their employees are involved in these programs and contribute any unique skills; and (4) whether their environmental initiatives have become linked to the employer’s public identity, attracting new employees and customers.

Dentons continues to find innovative solutions to minimize the Firm’s own carbon footprint. As such, Dentons has engaged in a number of exceptional earth-friendly initiatives:

• Dentons supports employee-led green committees, which meet regularly and work to educate and motivate personnel on the shift towards sustainable workplace practices – the committees report to each office's Managing Partner on a quarterly basis to highlight their progress towards more sustainable operations.

• At offices across Canada, employees are engaged in supporting numerous sustainable initiatives, including a rooftop herb garden in Vancouver, indoor bicycle parking and free access to shared-use bicycles in Montréal, representation on the TD Centre's Green Council tenant advisory committee and the unique adopt-a-plant program in Toronto, to name a few.

• At the Vancouver office, the Firm is part of the "Climate Smart Program" and works to manage and address its greenhouse gas emissions. Impressively, the office has measured significant GHG emissions drops through waste diversion and paper-use reduction strategies, reduced travel and increased two-wheeled commuting by employees.
