Mason Davis will be inducted into the Magic City Bar Association’s 2020 Hall of Fame and presented with the Medallion of Merit Award at the Magic City Bar Association Annual Scholarship Banquet. This year’s banquet will be “A Virtual Affair,” taking place on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at 5:30 pm CST. The event will be live-streamed online on the Magic City Bar Association’s Facebook page and the Magic City Bar Association’s YouTube channel.  

Sirote is a proud sponsor of the 2020 Magic City Bar Association Annual Scholarship Banquet. The MCBA awards scholarships to minority law students attending the five law schools in Alabama: Birmingham School of Law, Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, Jones School of Law, Miles Law School, and the University of Alabama School of Law. Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to minority second-year law school students for the best submissions, and one $2,500 scholarship will be awarded for the best submission from a third-year law student. The MCBA will also award additional scholarships of $1000 based upon its award criteria.

Mason was involved in significant controversies in the civil rights struggle. As the attorney for a number of students who participated in the widely publicized Huntsville lunch counter sit-ins in 1961 and 1962, Mason played a key role in desegregating public accommodations in Alabama. He argued a series of appeals and won every case at the Court of Appeals. Along with other prescient attorneys, Mason saw the need for mentorship and collaboration for attorneys of color, so he assisted in the formation of the "Charles Hamilton Houston Legal Study Club," the precursor to the Magic City Bar Association. In recognition of his conspicuous contributions in advancing racial reconciliation, his family was pictured on Time magazine's cover in 1974.

Mason has received numerous awards over his lifetime. He was listed in the 2021 edition of The Best Lawyers in America© for Commercial Litigation and Corporate Law, an honor for which he has been recognized for every year since 2006. He has been recognized by Mid-South Super Lawyers®, holds an AV-Preeminent Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Rating™, and was recently named to Birmingham Magazine's list of Top Attorneys for 2020.

Mason has been with Sirote since 1984 and was the first African American attorney to be hired by a major Alabama law firm as a partner. At Sirote, Mason has a long, distinguished career representing clients in business, antitrust, securities, and product liability litigation, as well as life, health, and surety company defense. He also has extensive experience before Insurance Regulatory Departments and Commissions and has participated in numerous trials in both state and federal courts. His appellate practice includes matters before the Supreme Court of Alabama and the 5th and 11th Circuit Courts of Appeals.
