December 21, 2020 -- Dentons partner Maria Livanos and senior managing associate Lauren Macksoud have been named to Crain’s New York Business’ fourth annual Notable Women in Law list.
Published by Crain's New York Business, Notable Women in Law is an annual editorial feature profiling accomplished women lawyers in the New York City metro area. The special section recognizes individuals for their success during the last 18 months.
Livanos, a partner in Dentons’ Capital Markets practice, a member of the Dentons US Board and Global Advisory Board and leading the Dentons global Agency and Trust group, represents major financial institutions in their roles as trustees, securities administrators, master servicers, collateral administrators, collateral agents, calculation agents, escrow agents, paying agents and backup servicers in matters involving collateralized loan obligation transactions, whole business transactions, aircraft securitizations, esoteric financings, asset- and mortgage-backed securitizations, project financings and corporate debt issuances. A recognized industry leader in agency and trust, Livanos is an active participant on the Structured Finance Association’s Trustee Committee. She also serves as co-chair of Dentons' US WomenLEAD Committee, which focuses on supporting and building the success of the Firm’s women lawyers through targeted business development assistance, mentoring opportunities, networking events and client events. She served as a mentor in Dentons’ Executive Mentorship Program as well as a facilitator for Dentons’ Preparing for Rain program, an initiative that hones the rainmaking skills of female lawyers by eliminating systemic and individual barriers to business development success often faced in the years immediately preceding and following promotion to partner.
Macksoud is a member of Dentons' Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy practice group. Her practice has included such major matters as representing the debtor in the Verity Health bankruptcy, the unsecured creditors committees in the General Motors and Chrysler bankruptcy proceedings and the debtor in the Saint Vincent's Catholic Medical Center chapter 11 liquidation. She has represented 363 sale purchasers, plan sponsors and debtor-in-possession lenders in various bankruptcy proceedings and has also represented foreign representatives in numerous chapter 15 bankruptcy proceedings. Macksoud represents clients in and out of court in stressed, distressed, workout, insolvency and bankruptcy situations. She has experience representing debtors, creditors, creditors' committees and other parties in interest in chapter 11 reorganizations and chapter 7 liquidations. She also has experience representing lenders in various types of energy-efficiency project finance transactions. Since 2018, Macksoud has served on the board of The Animation Project, a creative-arts therapy workforce development program that provides at-risk youth with the digital art and therapeutic resources they need to pursue careers in animation.
