1. Introduce yourself.

My name is Lisa Karsten, North America User Adoption Manager in Dentons’ Information Technology department. I’ve been at the Firm for almost ten years, although I am a “boomerang.” I left the Firm briefly last year only to return a short time later.

2. Share a recent project you’ve worked on and/or professional accomplishment.

The User Adoption team is busy working on the iManage Work project, gearing up for the transition from DeskSite (which is being retired) to the iManage web interface. We introduced a Help & Feedback channel in Teams where all pilot participants can send an email to the channel and immediately be added to the chat with other pilot participants and IT team members. It’s very rewarding to see the collaboration happening organically among the pilot users in this channel. We are seeing pilot participants answering questions from other participants, sharing their own tips and tricks and helping each other out. This collaboration is happening across the border, too, which is really exciting to see.

3. How did you get interested in information technology, specifically for a law firm?

Great question! Honestly, it was my frustration with outdated technology and my curiosity about how technology worked that led me down this path. I was working at a law firm on a litigation team and wanted to better understand why technology changes were so slow to occur. I wanted to fix things myself and be more self-sufficient. When a position on the help desk at this firm opened up, I raised my hand and was fortunate enough to have someone believe in me and my abilities. The rest, as they say, is history.

4. Imagine you have a magic wand that can instantly make any IT concept crystal clear to users. Which complex IT term or concept would you choose to expose first?

Generative AI is all the rage right now but many people don’t understand what it is. Generative AI actually creates content, images, text – even music – based on what it has learned and knows about. It’s a bit like IT magic – just like a magician can pull a rabbit out of a hat, or turn a handkerchief into a bouquet of flowers – I can wave my magic wand and create something new by typing a query into a chat box or answering a prompt.

5. Those who don’t know you very well would be surprised to learn that…

I am a hippie at heart and spent many summers in my younger days following various bands across the country. I had a ticket to the last Grateful Dead show ever at Soldier Field in Chicago but I didn’t go because I thought the performance the night before was awful. I still have the paper ticket for that show!
