The Québec privacy regulator, the Commission d’accès à l’information (“CAI”) appears to be taking the position that because true anonymization is not possible, businesses should not do it until the Québec government issues regulations specifying how acceptable anonymization can be done. Read more about this our Dentons Data Blog, and sign up to receive future posts here. The Dentons Data blog provides insight and commentary on the legal aspects of the digital revolution affecting businesses. It discusses trends and developments in privacy, cybersecurity and data-related regulation in Canada and internationally and offers practical suggestions and insights on how these issues impact companies in a wide variety of industries.
China TC260
On August 25, 2023, China's National Information Security Standardization Technical Committee (TC260) published its draft Information Security Technology – Key Data Processing Security Requirements for public comment. The TC260 is a technical organization responsible for the development of domestic information security standards. The Key Data Processing Security Requirements outlines security requirements for processing activities related to a special category of data established by China's Data Security Law 2021. This special category of data is referred to as "key data" or "important data". It is generally defined as data that, if leaked, tampered with, or destroyed, may have an impact on national security, economic development, and social stability, among other things. The Key Data Processing Security Requirements follow an earlier guide published by the TC260 on the identification of key data. Click here for more analysis from Dentons.
