Dentons provided pro bono legal assistance to Dobrý start (“Good start”) in drafting a bill to end the operation of institutional facilities for children under the age of three (kojenecké ústavy). The bill sets out stronger support for foster parenting (pěstounství) as a replacement to institutional care during the transitional period. The bill passed the entire legislative process last week and will be officially published in the upcoming days.

The Czech Republic was one of the last European countries operating such institutions and was widely criticized by both local child welfare experts as well as European institutions.

The Dentons pro bono legal team consisted of associates Anna Urbanová and Jakub Nosek, who are both based in Prague.
