Global law firm Dentons was recognized with five awards at the CEE Legal Matters 2024 Deal of the Year Awards, including Deal of the Year in Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, Latvia and Montenegro. The accolades are a testament to the quality of Dentons’ legal advice and the Firm’s leading role in the most important transactions in Central and Eastern Europe in 2024.

Deal of the Year in Romania: Dentons advised EnergoNuclear on a €3.2 billion engineering, procurement, and construction management contract for the advancement of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant Units in Romania. Partners Claudiu Munteanu-Jipescu (Bucharest), Mark Macaulay (UK), Ian McGrath (Amsterdam) and Senior Counsel Oana Voda (Bucharest) led the cross-border team, which included partner Peter Braun, Elspeth Nuttall, Bartosz Dobkowski, Başak Küçük, Yves Botteman, Raul Mihu, Istvan Réczicza, Alec Cameron and Ted Boone.

Deal of the Year in Slovakia: Dentons advised Infracapital on the sale of a 100% stake in GGE, a Slovak energy group, to Creditas in a competitive auction process. Partners Rob Irving (Budapest) and Juraj Gyárfáš (Bratislava) led the team, which included Sebastian Ishiguro, Tomáš Pavelka, Brigitta Kovács, Erik Kožúrik, Drahomír Široký, Kamran Pirani and Christopher Colclough.

Deal of the Year in Ukraine: Dentons advised Turkcell on the sale of Lifecell to NJJ Holding and Horizon Capital. London-based partner James Davison led the cross-border team from the UK and Ukraine, which included Ben Havard, Chris Northway, Lorna McCaa, John Finnick, Volodymyr Monastyrskyy, Oleg Batyuk, Oleksandra Piskun, Roman Mehedynyuk, Tetiana Sokhotska; Valeria Tarasenko, and Evgenia Prudko.

Deal of the Year in Latvia: Dentons advised AirBaltic on its €340 million bond issue of 14.50% bonds due in 2029. This was the largest corporate bond issue originating from Latvia. London-based Partners Nick Hayday, Cameron Half and Victoria Wyer, led the team, which included David Ferris, Serge Sergiou, Grace Stobbart, Marc Gilston, and Rich Williams.

Deal of the Year in Montenegro: Dentons advised Krnovo Green Energy, a subsidiary of Akuo Energy, a French renewable energy developer, on the refinancing of the Krnovo 72 MW wind power plant by KfW IPEX-Bank. Paris-based project finance partner Evgenia Laurson led the deal along with London-based senior associate Anna Booth. The firm of Karanovic & Partners advised on Montenegrin law.

CEE Legal Matters has held the CEE Deal of the Year Awards annually since 2017 to celebrate the transactions, financings, IPOs, and other deals that underpin growth throughout the region, as well as the lawyers and law firms who make them happen.
