London—Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has instructed Dentons and Pöyry, an international consulting and engineering company, to develop the rules for a new generation side pool structure for the electricity market on the main interconnected electricity system in Oman. The project began in October 2015 and is expected to run to the end of 2016.

OPWP has adopted a high level design for the pool and Dentons and Pöyry will assist in developing this design into the full rules.  This is a complex project and represents the latest stage in the evolution of Oman's electricity market. If adopted, the pool structure will be the first of its kind in the GCC so this is of both regional and national significance.

The project will call upon the world-leading energy regulatory expertise that Dentons has developed over 80 years, together with its leading regional and Oman law expertise.  The Firm has advised the Government and OPWP since 1999 on the design and implementation of the current single buyer market structure, and on several of Oman's IPPs and IWPPs developed under it.  Dentons has maintained Oman's leading law office for over 30 years.
