Frankfurt—Global law firm Dentons has advised the European DataWarehouse (ED) to support it in becoming the world’s leading securitization repository under the new EU Securitization Regulation which aims to create a specific framework for simple, transparent and standardised (STS) securitization. Under the new regulation certain transaction-related information must be reported to securitization repositories. These “data repositories” assume a critical market infrastructure and transparency role in providing investors access to a vast array of information on securitizations and will be registered and supervised by ESMA, the European Securities and Markets Authority.

Dentons’ Frankfurt based Financial Services Regulatory team, led by Michael Huertas, advised on all aspects of the design and implementation of the governance, risk and compliance policy as well as the operational framework required as part of the new EU Securitization Regulation conduct of business obligations.

ED is a leading data repository in Europe for the collection, validation and dissemination of detailed, standardized and asset class specific loan-level data for Asset-Backed Securities (ABS). ED stores individual loan data and the corresponding documentation to facilitate risk assessment for investors and other market participants. In its role as the market infrastructure and on behalf of the Eurosystem, ED aims to increase transparency and restore confidence in the ABS market. Through ED’s data, users are able to analyse underlying portfolios in a more efficient way and compare portfolios on a systematic basis. ED currently hosts data for more than 1150 public ABS transactions across Europe.
