London—The Dentons London office celebrated the 10th annual Dentons Art Prize event recently, with a reception at its office in Fleet Place, where colleagues and contacts gathered to recognise emerging artists. The Dentons Art Prize supports promising artists as they progress in their careers and values the vibrant and responsive insights on both local and global culture that they provide.

British Ghanaian artist Enam Gbewonyo won first place, winning a prize fund of £5,000. Enam was selected by the judging panel for four works that investigate identity, womanhood and humanity through the medium of textiles and performance. Her work advocates for the spiritual healing power of hand crafts, using processes such as embroidery, knit, weave, print and wirework.

Louis Caseley was awarded second place, with a prize fund of £2,500, for a series of assembled objects and images that question notions of value and how it is created and simulated. Special commendations were also given to Siphiwe Mnguni and Valerie Asiimwe Amani. Susan Rocklin was awarded the Staff Prize, as voted for by Dentons employees.

As part of the initiative, the shortlisted artists display their work at Fleet Place and are supported with expert pro bono legal advice.

The prizes, awarded by Dentons, were presented by a judging panel made up of Art Newspaper journalist Louisa Buck, artist Thomas J Price and gallerist Maria Varnava. Dentons has reprised the art prize after a brief hiatus during the Covid 19 pandemic. They are collaborating with curator Niamh White and artist Tim A Shaw to host an annual prize for contemporary artists.
