CPS 230 takes effect soon: Are you ready to comply?

Australia: APRA-regulated entities (including banks, insurers and superannuation funds) have until 1 July 2025 to become compliant with the operational risk management requirements set out in new APRA Prudential Standard CPS 230. As the deadline approaches, APRA-regulated entities should consider if there are any remaining gaps in their ability to comply with these new requirements. 

ASIC v FIIG: Lessons to be learnt from cybersecurity enforcement action taken by ASIC

Australia: For only the second time ever, ASIC has taken enforcement action against the holder of an Australian Financial Services Licence alleging breaches of the Corporations Act arising from a cybersecurity incident. ASIC commenced civil penalty proceedings against FIIG Securities arising from a cybersecurity incident that occurred in May 2023.

Australia: On 11 September 2024, the Commonwealth Attorney-General introduced the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Amendment Bill 2024. This bills stated aim is to modernise Australia’s AML/CTF regime, address regulatory gaps, and align with international standards established by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
