It has been an eventful year in the world of employment law. There are several pieces of legislation on the statute books which are still to come into force and, of course, the government published its Employment Rights Bill (the Bill) in October. Our horizon scan table sets out an overview of the key changes in the pipeline.

Parliament may, of course, amend the Bill as it makes its way through the legislative process, but we have based the snapshot below on its current status and content. This includes the proposals contained in the amendment paper published on 28 November although these encompass amendments suggested from MPs outside government so do not necessarily reflect the government's intentions.

Some of the measures will also require secondary legislation, which means a statutory instrument setting out the nuts and bolts about key details such as eligibility and how a new right will work in practice.

In the Next Steps paper the government published alongside the Bill, it gave an indication of some of its future employment-law-related plans. Our analysis includes a table that captures these proposals and anything we know so far about timescales.
