On May 17, 2016, at a celebratory gala held in association with the Restructuring and Distressed Intelligence Forum, the Global M&A Network honoured Dentons with four Turnaround Atlas Awards, honouring excellence in international restructuring, special situations M&A, judicial and out-of-court reorganizations.

Dentons received the Tech and Telecom Restructuring of the Year for our work on the reorganization and resolution of Ligado Networks (commonly referred to as LightSquared LP). The Canadian-based team that worked diligently on this deal comprised John Salmas, Heidi Clark, David Little, Sara-ann Van Allen and Robert Kennedy.

The second award—Judicial Restructuring of the Year for Small Markets—was awarded to Dentons for our work on the Veris Gold restructuring and sale of Jerritt Canyon Mine to Whitebox Advisors. The Vancouver-based Dentons team that worked on the mining and restructuring deal, comprising John Sandrelli, Tevia Jeffries, Jordan Schultz and Gary Sollis, was also recently awarded with the M&A Advisor Award in the category of Real Estate Deal of the Year, and the M&A Advisor Turnaround Award in the category of Mining Deal of the Year and Cross-Border Restructuring Deal of the Year (up to US$100 million).

The third award—Private Equity Turnaround of the Year—was presented to Dentons for our representation of the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Hovensa, LLC, a refinery in the US Virgin Islands. Arclight purchased that refinery and the Committee played an important role in the sales process and maximizing recoveries to unsecured creditors. The team who acted on this file comprised Sam Alberts and Alison Elko Franklin.

Finally, the Firm was honoured as Mid-Market Restructuring Law Firm of the Year for our team’s work as a global group on multiple mid market restructuring matters.

These awards reflect achievement of the highest standards in performance and excellence in the local, regional and global markets, and recognize a collaborative effort across several practice groups at Dentons.
