London—Dentons is celebrating after its 15+ jurisdiction solar M&A deal for Statkraft - on its acquisition of Solarcentury - has been awarded “best M&A deal of the year” at this year's Inspiratia Energy & Sustainability awards.

The Awards, presented at the Sheraton Grand in London on October 28, celebrated the achievements of pioneering companies and individuals within the global infrastructure and renewables industry.

Statkraft, Europe’s largest producer of renewable energy, acquired the entire share capital of the global solar power company, Solarcentury - gaining access to their project pipeline, spanning many high-growth markets including Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, France, Greece, Italy and Chile.

This acquisition was Statkraft's first embankment within its strategy to evolve as a wind and solar developer, with the aim of becoming one of the leading renewable energy companies globally.

Dentons advised on all aspects of the due diligence and transaction and was one of the first deals to be done 100% virtually in 2020/21 during the height of the COVID-19 Pandemic. 

Around 100 Dentons lawyers from across the globe in over 15 jurisdictions, including the UK, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and Greece, were involved in the deal.
