Protecting your brand locally and abroad

In this session, Joy Atacador, Partner and Roanne De Menezes, Special Counsel, will look at considerations for selecting, protecting and managing trademarks in Australia and globally. This session will cover how to select a powerful brand and check if it is clear to register and use. We will discuss strategies for deciding on which trademarks you should register, what goods and services you need to cover, how, when and where you should register them.

We will take you through how to navigate ‘first-to-file’ countries such as China where rights are granted to the first person to file an application, and when you may need to rebrand or adopt a foreign language mark. We will also provide our best practice tips for internally managing your trademark portfolio.
