Dubai—Dentons took home the 'Construction Team of the Year' award at the Middle East Legal Awards for the second year in a row, in addition to being 'Highly Commended' in the 'TMT Team of the Year' category.
Co-hosted by Legal Week and the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Middle East, the prestigious awards held in Dubai had a record number of submissions in 2018 and the awards ceremony was attended by nearly 400 lawyers from across the region.
Dentons earned the construction award for acting as lead counsel on the drafting and negotiation of the construction contracts for Reem Mall, a landmark US$1.2 billion retail and entertainment development in Abu Dhabi which will feature the world’s largest indoor snow play area, Snow Park. The Firm's team was led by partner Ian Dalley, one of a few lawyers in the Middle East who is also dual-qualified as an engineer.
Dentons' TMT team was also 'Highly Commended' for advising on the drafting of a regulatory framework for the establishment of Sharjah Media City (SMC), a new Freezone which will play a key role in the development of the media industry in the UAE. The matter was led by Dentons' regional head of TMT, Kelly Tymburski.
Dubai managing partner and Head of Construction and Dispute Resolution for Dentons in the Middle East, Alastair Young, said, "We are pleased to continue to be recognised by our clients, peers and industry leaders for our work on market-leading projects across the region."
The Firm's Middle East Managing Partner, Paul Jarvis, added, “These awards are acknowledgement of our legal excellence on significant projects for both clients and our local communities."
