Atlanta—Dentons’ Global Vice Chair Gordon Giffin is one of the 2019 recipients of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Daily Report, Georgia's legal industry publication.  The publication annually recognizes 12 lawyers who have made a lasting impression on the Georgia legal community.

In addition to his Global Vice Chair role, Giffin is a leader of the Firm’s global Public Policy group and co-Leader of its Energy sector. Drawing on his impressive experience in public service, he focuses his practice on  international transactions and trade matters, government procurement, energy regulatory and policy matters, corporate governance and crisis counseling, federal and state regulatory matters and public policy. Giffin currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Carter Presidential Center, is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission. He also serves on the Board of Directors, as Chair, of TransAlta Corp., as Lead Director of Canadian Natural Resources, as Chair of Human Resources Committee of Canadian National Railway and on the private CIBC US Holdings Board.

From August 1997 to April 2001, Giffin served as the 19th US Ambassador to Canada.  As Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Ottawa, he managed US interests in the world's largest bi-lateral trade relationship, and US collaboration with Canada on global issues. He received the Superior Honor Award from the US State Department for negotiating a pre-clearance agreement. From 1975-1979, he was Legislative Director and Chief Counsel to US Senator Sam Nunn in Washington, DC.

Giffin received Emory University School of Law's 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes outstanding alumni who have achieved distinction in legal practice, teaching, research or public administration and been awarded honorary degrees by Canadian and US universities. He has also served as an adjunct professor of law at Emory University School of Law. The publication will recognize all of this year's honorees at The Georgia Legal Awards dinner on June 20.
