Washington, DC—Dentons, the world’s largest law firm, today announces that Shari Klevens has been selected as a finalist for the 2020 Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) Rainmaker Award. Klevens, a partner in the Washington, DC, office who focuses on commercial litigation, is co-chair of the global Insurance sector team for Dentons US and a member of the US Board.
Klevens is among 11 diverse lawyers selected by MCCA whose dedication, client development and experience have set them apart as leaders in the legal profession. The MCCA Rainmaker Award honors lawyers from across the nation who have achieved success and offer value to others by leading by example. It celebrates their diversity of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and generational differences, as well as the diversity in their practice areas. The nominees were selected from a group of lawyers whose billings have exceeded US$5 million annually and who have contributed significantly to their communities.
With more than 20 years of legal experience, Klevens has led a number of women’s initiatives and advocates structuring diverse teams to serve a global clientele. In addition to her practice, Klevens is highly committed to pro bono and public service. She has primarily focused her pro bono service on representing dozens of families and children in family law matters, including child custody, support and adoption matters. She has donated more than 1,400 hours of pro bono legal services to others, and she has been named to the Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll. Klevens has a stake in her own community that she seeks to instill into her two young daughters. Her family has volunteered for years with stocking, bagging and providing other support to the Arlington Food Assistance Center.
“While my choice of pro bono work is based on serving organizations and causes that mean a lot to me personally—supporting children and families, eradicating hunger, encouraging volunteerism and empowering women and minorities—it has, at the same time, raised my profile in the community,” said Klevens. “It has put me in touch with people and organizations I might not have encountered through my usual Firm work, and allowed me to lead by example, with my own children learning the importance of community service and volunteerism.”
