The Almaty office of global law firm Dentons, with the sponsorship of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has prepared the Decision Writing Manual on Intellectual Property Disputes, under the auspices of the American Bar Association's Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) program.

The manual was developed primarily for judges of the Republic of Kazakhstan and contains an analysis of intellectual property disputes, information about the legal status of cases and their peculiarities, and recommendations for drafting court decisions.

Mrs. Irina Anatolievna Kalashnikova, Judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan, reviewed and approved the manual for publication. The guide has since been published and 500 copies have been circulated to the courts of Kazakhstan and to the library of the Kazakhstan Bar Association. The electronic version is posted in the library of the Academy of Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

To develop the manual, Dentons’ Almaty office spent six months studying judicial practice, identifying the main characteristics of IP disputes, and developing recommendations for judges. Senior Associate Aliya Seitova authored the guide, under the supervision of Kazakhstan Managing Partner Aigoul Kenjebayeva and Partner Victoria Simonova.
