New York—Dentons US LLP announced today that Matthew S. Yoon has rejoined the firm as a partner in its Capital Markets practice. He will lead a team that covers the key areas of federal and state regulatory compliance for residential mortgages and consumer finance.

Yoon returns to the firm’s New York office, where until May 2011, he was a partner. Yoon has worked with members of the Capital Markets practice since 2000, including time at their prior law firm, Thacher Proffitt & Wood. Most recently he was a partner at DLA Piper.

Yoon regularly counsels national mortgage lenders, servicers, Wall Street institutions, hedge funds, private equity funds, loan fulfilment providers, and diligence companies on all aspects of federal and state consumer credit regulation, including the numerous recent changes that were instituted by Dodd-Frank.

On the federal level, these laws include the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), as well as agency regulations, including the Department of Housing and Urban Development/Federal Housing Administration (HUD/FHA), Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Ginnie Mae and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), privacy and consumer reporting matters under the Graham-Leach-Billey Act (GLB) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), and federal preemption issues. On the state level, these laws include state licensing statutes, anti-predatory lending laws, "doing business" qualification statutes, and other state statutes that substantively govern consumer and commercial lending products.

Yoon is the author of more than 50 articles on consumer financial regulatory issues and is a current contributor to Consumer Finance Law Quarterly. He earned his BA from State University of New York, Albany, and his JD from American University Washington College of Law, where he was articles editor for the American University Law Review.
