London—Dentons has risen to 17th position in Stonewall's Top 100 Employers 2017, a ranking of the highest performing UK organisations in the campaign group's Workplace Equality Index, an annual audit of workplace culture for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff. Dentons is also the 6th best performing law firm in the UK, having risen from 12th place in 2016.
The Firm climbed 80 places from 97th last year, and has risen over 300 places since 2015, reflecting the fact that creating a diverse and inclusive working environment is an important aspect of Dentons' strategy as we continue to grow as a firm.
Over 430 employers submitted entries to the 2017 Index, across the public, private and third sectors. As part of the Index participating employers can ask their staff to complete a feedback questionnaire. This year Stonewall received over 90,000 responses, making it one of the largest national employment surveys in the UK.
UK Diversity and Inclusion Partner Nick Mott said, "We strongly believe that people perform better when they can be themselves, which is why our commitment to diversity and inclusion is so integral to who we are as a firm. It is particularly pleasing that our internal LGBT networking group GLOW was singled out by Stonewall as "highly commended". Although we have always been a gay-friendly firm, LGBT visibility has increased enormously thanks to the creation of GLOW in 2015.
"Key highlights over the past year include collaborative events with various organisations including Barclays, Barclaycard, Santander, Deloitte, Mazars and Network Rail; co-founding with Deloitte a professional LGBT networking group for those working close to our London office; and the launch event of our "Allies" programme where former international rugby player Gareth Thomas shared his experiences of coming out with over 200 staff and clients."
