Los Angeles—Dentons Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy partner Samuel Maizel has been appointed to a three-year term as  chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Standing Committee on Armed Forces Law. In this role, Maizel will lead the committee's civilian practitioners and military lawyers in advancing the military justice system, service member rights and the practice of law.

Maizel, a military veteran, is a well-respected health care and restructuring lawyer in California. At Dentons, his practice includes bankruptcy matters and financial restructuring in- and out-of-court in all industries, and he leads the Firm's healthcare restructuring efforts nationwide. Maizel served in US Army's The Judge Advocate General's Corps, including service in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Previously he served as an Infantry Officer in the 101st Airborne Division and the 3rd US Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, received his MA in national security and public affairs from Georgetown University; and received his JD from George Washington University School of Law.

The ABA Standing Committee on Armed Forces Law addresses the issues of direct importance to the practice of law within the Department of Defense, including the thousands of military and civilian attorneys and their support teams globally. Its leadership is dedicated to working with various military and civilian liaisons and advisors to ensure that the military justice system, the environment for the practice of law, and the protection of service members' rights, remain the best it can be.
