Dentons announces today that Gary Meyerhoff has rejoined the Firm’s Commercial Litigation practice as a partner residing in the New York office. Meyerhoff’s experience gleaned during his time with the New York State Liquor Authority (NYSLA) will add value to our clients seeking assistance with the regulation, growth, protection, operation and financing of their businesses.
As general counsel of the NYSLA, Meyerhoff handled a wide range of responsibilities, including serving as the lead lawyer for prosecuting violations of the Alcohol Beverage Control Laws and advising the NYSLA Board on licensing and policy matters. Meyerhoff’s position was magnified due to the onset of COVID-19. At the height of the pandemic, he played a critical role in preparing and enforcing emergency Executive Orders and agency guidance to restrict restaurants and taverns from on-premises service and from allowing patrons to congregate. He also helped to establish the model for “alcohol to go” privileges for New York restaurants and taverns, later followed in most other states.
Prior to the NYSLA, Meyerhoff was a litigation partner at Dentons and its legacy firms for 19 years. Upon returning, his litigation practice will span a variety of sectors including hospitality, media and defamation, and financial services, as well as the alcoholic beverage and cannabis industries.
“Our clients will benefit from Gary’s vast experience, including the insights gained through his role as general counsel of the NYSLA,” said Sandra Hauser, head of Dentons’ US Commercial Litigation practice. “He adds considerable strength and depth to our growing practice, which will be attractive to clients as we continue to deliver services and solutions tailored to their priorities and needs.”
